This is a major turning point in the Bollywood film industry as it seemed to have come to a screeching halt over the past few months. We all thought that it would be a booming success again after the strike, however there was no such luck. It looked like the plague would never end with each mediocre release doing poorly at the box office.
This weekend the industry finally saw the light at the end of the tunnel with the release of ‘New York.’ The weekend crowds brought in revenue of Rs 18-19 crore. Not only were the multiplexes jam packed with viewers, but the small town theaters as well. It is reported that this film will make Rs 50 crore net business at the end of its run; which we cannot expect anytime soon.
Sources from a big cinema official reported, “It was a dream weekend for us. The best ever we saw in 2009. ‘New York’ had a great crowd, but also there was a huge turnout for ‘Terminator Salvation’ and ‘The Hangover.’ ‘Bolt’ too had its share of audience.”
For those of you that already saw it, let us know what you think, did this film live up to your expectations? And for those of you yet to see it…GO SEE IT.
